By using instruments as controllers for live electronics, the album explores and delves into a mysterious, raw yet ethereal soundscape, landing the tracks somewhere between ambient, contemporary Jazz, and Avant-Garde Electronics.
We are happy to announce a new album of Three States of Wax has been released on Astropi. Bringing together Jonathan Impett (trumpet, live electronics), Juan Parra Cancino (guitar, electronics) and Brice Soniano (double bass), this album navigates the porous boundaries between improvisation, technology, and musical thought.
Working with extended instruments as controllers for live electronics, the trio shapes a sound world that is at once raw and elusive, moving fluidly between ambient textures, contemporary jazz, and avant-garde electronics. The project reflects on music not as a fixed object, but as a dynamic, distributed process, continually redefined through performance, interaction, and listening.
Drawing inspiration from Michel Serres’ notion of the mutable wax, Three States of Wax invites us to reconsider what constitutes musical material today. What emerges is a shifting field of relations, where sound, gesture, and system intersect in ever-changing configurations.
