Orpheus Instituut is taking part in Heritage Day 2025. The theme of this edition is ‘game on’. We find a common ground, as music is playful by nature. Not coincidentally, we ‘play’ music, musicians ‘play’ their instruments or talk about the ‘game’ of performers. But music is much more than ‘Spielerei’...
Orpheus Instituut opens its Koetshuis doors during Heritage Day 2025. Every year, hundreds of museums, archives, heritage libraries, local history societies and heritage organisations join together to celebrate our cultural richness through tours, exhibitions, lectures, etc.
This year's theme is ‘game on’: sports, games and movement take centre stage. The link with music is immediately obvious to us. We will open the doors of the Ton Koopman Collection at Koetshuis d'Hane-Steenhuyse on 27 April and invite you to discover magnificent manuscripts, rare books and unique objects. Here you will understand how music and games have always gone hand in hand, from the Middle Ages to the present day. For example, you will learn how software can turn ancient games into scores and sounding music. How you can dice up dances by Mozart as well as avant-garde music by Kagel and Cage. And how researchers playfully deal with tomorrow's digital challenges.
