We welcome Cat hope as a new associate researcher of Orpheus. She will be working with the MTT cluster.

The Orpheus Instituut is pleased to announce Cat Hope as an Associate Researcher. Hope’s project will explore the development of scores that facilitate the reproduction of electronic music. She'll be focusing on historic works where electronic instruments were effectively notated. The project aims to rework existing pieces and create new ones, ensuring the continued evolution of electronic music through live performances.

A renowned artistic researcher and performer, Hope’s work centres on low-frequency sound composition and graphic notation systems. She is also a leader in the development of the Decibel ScorePlayer application, which aids in reading graphic notations. Hope has a strong academic background, holding a PhD in Art from RMIT University and a Bachelor of Music (Performance) with Honours. Her research spans early Australian electronic music, composers like Percy Grainger and Fausto Romitelli, and issues around gender in music.

Hope is a professor at Monash University, and her music has earned critical acclaim, including a German Record Critics Prize in 2017. Her appointment at the Orpheus Instituut represents a significant advancement in electronic music research.
