Postgraduate Education and Residency Programs

At Orpheus Instituut, we support the next generation of artist-researchers. From career-changing doctoral trajectories to postdoctoral researcherships, we provide the environment, supervision and community needed to turn artistic practice into world-class research.

docARTES: Our Doctoral curriculum

We believe that artistic creation is a fundamental form of knowledge. Through docARTES, we help you integrate your musical practice with academic reflection within a single, coherent research process.

The docARTES curriculum targets experienced musicians and composers and is organised through long-term collaboration with leading Flemish and Dutch universities and conservatoires.

Tailor-made Residency Programmes

Research does not happen in isolation. We offer bespoke residency programmes for pre-doctoral, post-doctoral, and visiting researchers. These residencies are designed to enhance the quality of your work by providing:

  • Expert supervision: Guidance from leaders in the field of artistic research.
  • Peer communities: Opportunities to share insights with a global network of researchers.
  • Research infrastructure: Full access to the institute’s facilities and academic activities.

1. Programme for Visiting Researchers

For established artist-researchers, our Programme for Visiting Researchers offers a dedicated period to deepen your work within an internationally recognised research environment. It is an ideal space for intensive focus and high-level knowledge exchange.

2. Internships

Are you a Master’s or Post-Master’s student curious about artistic research? Our internship programmes offer a first look into this evolving field.
As an intern, you will follow a tailored trajectory within one of our specialised research clusters. You wont be just observing; you will receive direct supervision and contribute substantially to the institute’s ongoing projects.

3. Futures fellowship programme

Ready to redefine the horizons of artistic research in music?
We invite artist researchers of all backgrounds to bring vision, intellectual curiosity and creative capacity to shape the discourse of artistic research in music for the next decades.

This fellowship is not designed for the pursuit of individual projects in isolation.
