Scenic Mutations

Vincent Roumagnac explores different medium from and within the broad notion of stage, from performance and installations to video experiments. His art practice is based on time-specific explorations of the scenic mutations that emerge from the strategy of permutation between the backstage and the stage agencies at the time of a shift of representational paradigm demanded by the current climatic crisis.

Vincent Roumagnac

Born 1973, he lives and works in Lyon, Paris and in Helsinki. Vincent Roumagnac is a French-Basque artist and researcher. Challenging definitions of genre, he explores different medium from and within the broad notion of stage, from performance and installations to video experiments. His art practice is based on time-specific explorations of the scenic mutations that emerge from the strategy of permutation between the backstage and the stage agencies at the time of a shift of representational paradigm demanded by the current climatic crisis. Since 2010 he collaborates with Finnish choreographer Simo Kellokumpu and since 2012 with French visual artist Aurélie Pétrel. His solo and collaborative projects have been featured in different European and international venues in France, Germany, Finland, Iceland, Argentina, Japan, Canada and China. He is currently conducting a doctorate in artistic research at the Performing Arts Research Centre of the University of the Arts of Helsinki on “Neganthroposcenic Chronotopias, Deep Stage and Hyperdramatic Theatre” (2015 – …). His work in duo with Aurélie Pétrel – aka Pétrel I Roumagnac (duo) – is represented by the Gallery Escougnou-Cetraro (Paris).
