Part two
At the 2016 national EPTA conference in Ede, the Belgian pianist and teacher Luk Vaes presented his new collection *peyotl*, created in collaboration with Hans Cafmeyer and dedicated to ‘extended piano techniques’. This booklet of solo works is intended for children, to help integrate ‘extended piano techniques’ into the curriculum during pre-conservatoire education. The lecture and the article below form a follow-up to Vaes’ presentation given in 2010 at the EPTA Study Weekend in Nunspreet. Following this, an article was published in Piano Bulletin 2011 No. 1 in which Luk Vaes defined the concept of ‘extended piano techniques’ and provided examples of these from both old and new piano literature, the subject on which he obtained his PhD in the arts in 2009.
