At the Orpheus Instituut pianists and violinists have gathered for a ten-day international workshop. Through the historically popular genre of the accompanied keyboard sonata, they explored the lesson, where the teacher may accompany his pupil on the violin, and the salon, where a violinist joins the keyboardist. We warmly invite you to three culminating masterclasses and two final concerts.

Through the historically popular genre of the accompanied keyboard sonata, they explored two contexts of late eighteenth-century music making, while using a variety of historical keyboards—one being a lesson, where the teacher may accompany his pupil on the violin, and the other a salon, where a violinist joins the keyboardist, helping her showcase her skills in front of an audience.
We warmly invite you to three culminating masterclasses and two final concerts.

Masterclasses and concerts will feature accompanied keyboard sonatas by L. Adam, C. P. E. Bach, M. Clementi, J. Haydn, I. Ladurner, and W. A. Mozart, performed on a Saxon-style clavichord and pianos by Erard Frères, I. Kober, Longman & Clementi, J. A. Stein, and P. Taskin.
Doors open 15 minutes before masterclasses and 30 minutes before concerts. Entrance is free of charge. For the masterclasses, please feel free to stop by as you wish. For the concerts, however, we kindly ask you to be on time.
Reservation for the two concerts is required.

This year’s Historical Summer Academy brings together keyboardists and violinists around the late-18th-century keyboard sonata with violin accompaniment. Lessons and salon performances will be staged around various square and grand keyboards of German, French, and English design.
