Switched-On
2010 - 2013
The point of departure will be the use of already existing interfaces such as MIDI-electric guitar, MIDI-percussion, synthesizer saxophone, keyboard and wind controller. The aim of this artistic research is to contribute to the artistic usage of these gadgets working from the concept of building 'virtual' instruments with which musicians (composers and performers) interacts. A major focus is how new performance practice is developed in this process. The project will also explore new ways of working with the projection of sound in physical space and how this affects the perception of music from the view of composer, performer and listener. While the main artistic approach is experimental, the research methodology is qualitative studies based on video documentation of rehearsals and performances. The project involves two researchers from ORCiM: the composer Bill Brooks and the guitarist Stefan Östersjö.
