Charting Performance Practices in Salvatore Sciarrino’s Music

Salvatore Sciarrino's comprehensive body of work, which has evolved over five decades and spans multiple musical genres, poses unique challenges and opportunities for performers. His oeuvre, rooted in the Western musical and cultural traditions, ventures into new territories of instrumental technique and expressive potential. This conference aims to illuminate the practical aspects of performing Sciarrino's music, exploring interpretative strategies, the physical and emotional engagement with his scores, and the collaborative processes involved in bringing his music to life.

Submission Guidelines

We invite contributions from instrumentalists, conductors, singers, stage directors, scenographers, and scholars with a strong focus on music performance. Submissions can include performance-focused analyses, case studies of performances or rehearsals, and discussions on the pedagogy of Sciarrino's music.

We are open to all presentation formats including in-person, online, prerecorded-only, live-only, or a combination, ensuring that all participants have the opportunity to contribute regardless of their location.

Please submit an abstract of up to 300 words outlining the focus of your proposed presentation, along with a biographical note of no more than 150 words, by December 1st, 2024. Proposals should be directed to marco.fusi@orpheusinstituut.be.
