Into the dust book

We are proud to present to you dust book - which was recorded here at Orpheus Instituut. It's a new CD by composer Evan Johnson, featuring our artistic researcher Marco Fusi, who is part of the HIPEX research cluster. Written for the viola d’amore, the work is a fragile, extended meditation on resonance, silence, and sonic detail.

Described by Johnson as his longest and most ambitious piece to date, dust book unfolds in sparse gestures and suspended time. Across six movements, sound emerges tentatively—like dust drifting through light—shaped as much by absence as by presence. Marco Fusi brings deep insight and extraordinary sensitivity to this collaboration, which developed through intensive sessions in our buildings here in Ghent and culminated in a premiere at Darmstadt in 2023.

A profound exploration of musical fragility, dust book invites listeners into a quiet, unsettled world—where each note flickers, hesitates, and slowly finds its place.
