This semester we welcome a trainee from Ghent University
Her traineeship moves between the study of historical sources and the task of making them speak anew. Delphine is currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in Art History and Musicology. Alongside her love of music, she has a particular interest in dramaturgy, especially in the interplay between music, libretto, and emotion, and in the ways in which meaning emerges from their interaction. She regularly attends opera performances and is equally drawn to the historical contexts in which music takes shape and to the sources through which that history can be read. At Orpheus Instituut, she hopes to bring these interests together in a practice that seeks to understand the past through the traces it has left behind.
During her traineeship, she will work under the supervision of mentor Bruno Forment on a largely unexplored collection of digitised stage models from Grenoble. She will refine metadata and describe the sets, allowing these ephemeral designs to become legible once more as witnesses to the history of opera and scenography. Her work will also connect with the research clusters Resounding Libraries and Declassifying the Classics, which investigate the relationship between historical sources and musical practice.
