InschrijvenSalvatore Sciarrino's extensive body of work, developed over five decades and spanning a wide range of musical genres, presents performers with distinct challenges and opportunities. Firmly rooted in Western musical and cultural traditions, his compositions venture boldly into unexplored territories of instrumental technique and expressive potential.
A defining characteristic of Sciarrino’s music is its dialogue between tradition and innovation. By reimagining and elaborating upon existing works, he forges a deep connection with historical musical practices while simultaneously expanding the boundaries of contemporary composition. For performers, this interplay requires a nuanced understanding of tradition coupled with the willingness to explore new sonic possibilities. At the same time, Sciarrino’s innovative approach to instrumental technique redefines the sonic capabilities of traditional instruments, challenging musicians to transcend conventional methods and embrace new sound production techniques. The performative elements of his music—whether in vocal works, operatic compositions, or instrumental pieces—add another layer of complexity, integrating vocality and theatricality to create a multidimensional experience for both performers and audiences.
This conference, part of the HIPEX research cluster activities, is dedicated to the exploration of Salvatore Sciarrino's music through the lens of performance practice. It aims to foster a rich dialogue among performers, illuminating the nuances of interpretation and technique that Sciarrino's music demands and deserves.
